This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

History of the Postage Stamps of the United States of America John Kerr Tiffany Books Reviews
A
great history of stamps.
I liked reading about my hobby. I had many other books on the hobby but not this one.
I liked it and found it very interesting as I collect postage stamps
Has a lot of very specific descriptions of early postage stamps and the history of the US postal system and how it developed.
But since it was written in 1886, it is not very useful for beyond that..
My husband loved this though he's not an avid reader. He quoted to me from it often, he found it so interesting!
5 Stars for 19th Century US stamps! This comprehensive work details the very roots of our US Stamps. Published in 1886, written by President of American Philatelical Association. Incredible, great detail tracing the history for each series and description of stamps! This book covers US Regular postage from 1847 Scott 1&2 to Bank Notes of 1870's. Also sections on Postmaster Stamps(1st 71 pages), Official Stamps, Postage Due, Special Delivery, Newspaper and Periodicals and Reprints through about 1880. And it is a FREE Download on !
Don't expect any images of stamps. It is just a text history, as the title says. If you are a stamp collector, you should find it interesting.
